Orgasmicness is a Healing Modality -- Sasha Cobra
A four-minute clip from 2016 in which Sasha Cobra, according to the description, promotes her "Seed of Transformation" event and its 2019 tour of workshops in Berlin, Barcelona, and New York. I could not access the spoken text, and I found little independent information about her work, so this post focuses on the idea in the title, sexuality as a path of healing, and on how to approach such offers carefully.
Where the idea comes from
Tantra is a family of Indian traditions, Hindu and Buddhist, that took shape from about the fifth or sixth century. They include ritual, meditation, mantras, and symbolism, and only some of them used sexual imagery. The scholar Hugh Urban, in Tantra: Sex, Secrecy, Politics, and Power in the Study of Religion (2003), shows that the Western picture of tantra as a path of sexual bliss is largely a modern invention. In the 1960s and 1970s, teachers such as Osho helped to spread that version, which then became "neo-tantra."
What research does support
There is real evidence that a satisfying sex life is linked with better mood and sleep, and that physical closeness releases oxytocin, which is associated with calm and bonding. Therapists such as those following the "sensate focus" approach developed by Masters and Johnson in the 1960s help couples reduce performance anxiety. And body-based practices can help people feel at home in their bodies. These are modest, well-known benefits.
The phrase "healing modality"
"Healing" can mean many things. A workshop may leave you feeling freer and more connected, and that matters. But it does not replace treatment for pain, sexual dysfunction, or trauma. People with a history of abuse should work with a qualified therapist trained in trauma.
How to choose with care
If you consider a workshop of this kind, ask: who leads it, and what training do they have? Is participation always optional, and can you stop at any moment? Are there clear rules about consent and physical contact? Is there an easy refund? A good teacher will answer all of these gladly. Be wary of pressure, secrecy, or promises of total transformation.
Closing thought
Every tradition has treated desire as a force to be understood, not feared or worshiped. Approaching it with curiosity, consent, and care is the part that never goes out of date.
