Global forecast July 2020
A fifteen-minute video from the channel Steve Judd Astrology with a forecast for July 2020. The description only asks viewers for donations to keep "real astrology free to the world." I could not access the spoken text, so I do not know what the astrologer predicts. This post gives the sky of that month and some perspective on how to read such forecasts.
The sky in July 2020
July 2020 came in the middle of a year that astrologers called heavy. Saturn and Pluto, the planets of limits and of deep change, had met in Capricorn in January. In July, Mercury ended its retrograde period on the 12th, and the big slow planets (Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto) were all moving backward, which astrologers read as a time to review rather than to begin. On the 5th there was a full moon with a faint lunar eclipse in Capricorn, and on the 20th a new moon in Cancer. The great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, which would take place at the end of the year, was already being discussed as the start of a new era.
How an astrological forecast works
Astrology treats the position of the planets as a symbolic clock. Each planet stands for a theme, each sign for a manner, and a forecast reads how the themes interact. Traditionally this was a sacred art as much as a prediction: the ancient Babylonians watched the sky to understand the will of the gods. The word "forecast" suggests certainty, but the practice has always been about tendencies, not fixed events.
What science says
Astrology has been tested. In a well-known double-blind experiment published in Nature in 1985, astrologers were unable to match birth charts to personality profiles better than chance. Later studies reached similar results. That does not stop it from being a rich symbolic language, but it does not predict world events. A forecast for "the globe" is also so broad that almost anything that happens can be read into it afterward.
How to use it without being used
Treat the video as a reflection. Ask which of the themes named speak to something in your own life, and decide for yourself. Be careful with advice about money, health or big decisions that rests only on planets. If you enjoy it, enjoy it as one enjoys an old story, and check the facts before you act.
