The Entrance to the Quadrivium

Having mastered the tools of the mind through the Trivium, the initiate ascends to the Quadrivium, the "fourfold path" of the world's structure. The first of these higher arts is Arithmetic. Each number—from the Monad (One) to the Decad (Ten)—is viewed as a living intelligence, representing a specific stage in the emanation of the One into the Many.

To contemplate Number is to witness the "thoughts of God" in their most abstract and unadulterated form.
