The Eye of the Devil

Ayin is the Eye, connecting the brilliant center of Tiferet to the intellectual mechanisms of Hod. The Twenty-Sixth Path is the confrontation with the ultimate illusion: the belief that the material world is absolute.

Here dwells the Devil, the archetype of bondage and materialism. The Renovating Intelligence demands that we gaze directly into the darkness of our own obsessions. It is the realization that the chains holding us to the physical realm are entirely psychological. By seeing through the comedic horror of the material facade, the initiate breaks the spell. The eye opens, not to the world, but to the absurdity of the ego's prison.
